For far too long, artists have given in to monopolies - record labels, ticketing companies, and promoters - that have blocked their access to fan data, dictated the music they play, and set unfair prices for their shows.
James Blake, for one, bemoans the struggle to connect with his fans without the mailing lists he once relied on: "Every show I've ever done for 13 years, a company has taken the 'data'—i.e., email addresses and phone numbers of my fans."
But the Briton and other artists are waking up.
Blake, for example, has partnered with bside to reconnect with his fans, regain ownership of his data, as well as promote his upcoming tour. 0 reply
