Outside of wanting ppl to live in peace, which obviously there's no greater goal, I really hope this part of the world gets more peaceful in the future because it has SO many architectural and historical treasures I hope I can visit one day!

Yeah but those are two different things though. The capacity of someone born in a humble family to access a power position is very lightly correlated with how democratic a country can be. You can be very democratic , have elections all the time, and still have social structures that reproduces the status quo. It's not mutually exclusive. (cf Switzerland for ex.)

It's no surprise centralized systems (authoritarian China) are more efficient than decentralized systems (democratic USA). You should know better, evolving in the blockchain space and knowing about stuff like DAOs for ex. It's not a question of capitalism here, China is as capitalistic as it gets. Does that mean it's the right thing to do? (going authoritarian/centralized) No.
