and there are many on the other side now hyper-mobilized because of Vance's comments on women

If Trump loses, it's because he agreed to a June debate instead of waiting until September after the conventions.

It's an error only in retrospect imo, because before Biden stepped down, with only 4 months before the elections, nobody thought Kamala, or anyone else for that matter, would be able to compete with Trump. So at the time, it was in his best interest to wreck chaos within democrats by exposing Biden on national TV and create panic.

Maybe he thought that he'd benefit more from creating this chaos while he could before the democrat somehow reorganize themselves internally and figure something out. It was probably a 50/50 call, but in retrospect, he did lose that coin flip.

But if you believed the cognitive decline rumors, waiting until the point of no return was clearly optimal.
