Liechtenstein Castle in Austria, near the town of Maria-Enzersdorf, is an ancient and majestic structure that once belonged to the ruling family of the state of Liechtenstein.
The castle was built in the 12th century by Hugo Lichtenstein on the edge of the Vienna Woods as a protective fortification and estate for the family.
Today, Liechtenstein Castle is known for the grand music festival in honor of Johann Nestroy, which attracts many visitors. However, there is much to see in the castle itself. Of particular interest is the chapel, built in 1130, and one of its frescoes, the Crucifixion of Christ, which was created in the 13th century, while the castle itself has preserved 19th-century interiors, formerly belonging to the princely family of Liechtenstein. From the towers of the castle, which can be climbed by guests, there is a beautiful view of the surrounding area. In clear weather, the view is so wide that you can see Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, from the balconies.
