Started going through the available shorts on @shibuyafilm yesterday. We can definitely discuss the shorts themselves here but now I’d rather touch upon the crow funding part of this platform. *Some opinions below might be controversial, especially as perceived by our fellow onchain artists* I have worked in film in various capacities my whole adult life - this includes physical production (retired AD here), development and overall more creative aspects of film and TV, and more recently, the business/tech side of post-production and distribution. This is not a brag in any way - just an overview of my career. That said, being a pro in this business comes with a grain of skepticism towards independent/self-funded projects. Only a few turn out to be amazing, but the absolute majority miss the mark. Yup, applicable to student and homemade content as well as a hefty chunk of professional productions. Historically, I’ve preferred to stay out crowdfunds for smaller independent projects, primarily because I’ve personally always had little faith in them unless I could clearly see the cool concept or the talent behind the production. It is especially hard to invest into anything if you can’t predict the actual outcome. That’s how it’s always been for me. The one thing I do appreciate about the idea behind @shibuyafilm is that you can see and assess the content you’re considering to support. Easy-peasy. You enjoyed the short, you see who’s behind it, you’re given the option to support the team’s future projects financially. Bonus points for the platform being crypto-adjacent and the team hanging around our FC ecosystem. ⬇️

I don’t know what’s gonna come out of this, and if any of the subsequent projects take off but I’m willing to gamble this time a bit. I’m a sucker for a cross between the emerging tech and my good ol’ entertainment industry as it’s been for over a century. As always, dyor and make your own decisions - but check out Shibuya’s content regardless - no initial commitment required.
