The Big Sleep with Bogey and Bacall. Classic. The story is pretty salacious and had to be told while dancing around the Hayes Code. Plus they filmed it at the end of the war so it’s one of the first pictures where women are show doing jobs outside of the home.

Wealth, imo. If politics is about chopping up the economic pie it helps to start with a big pie. The lack of struggle gives rise to the lack of interestingness you mention (though I do find their manufacturing industry interesting).

Have to read Balaji’s book and etc., but it seems like the old β€œGuns and Butter” is the key factor, no? Network states would be all (virtual) butter. Simply: eventually some power is going to send in people with guns and tax the butter out of the network. It’s more a distributed political party than a state.
