The court was incredibly merciful, sentencing the head of the Alameda Research fund Caroline Allison to two years in prison. It was through this fund that the managers of crypto exchange FTX, led by Sam Bankman-Fried, withdrew client funds. He was facing 110 years in prison. Former FTX head Sam Bankman-Fried was sentenced to 25 years in prison for fraud and embezzlement of client funds. In the fall of 2023, Allison gave key testimony at trial and described how Bankman-Fried directed her to write misleading reports for investors and how FTX clients' money was used to make risky investments in the Alameda Research fund.
