An English computer engineer named Alan Turing, thanks to his cryptographic and mathematical skills, deciphered the Nazis' ENIGMA machine. The information he and his team provided at Bletchley Park saved many lives in World War II. In honor of him, the Society for Computing Machinery's annual award is named Turing.
