The Crying Woman by Pablo Picasso, 1937 In this work, by portraying a crying woman, Picasso did not want to directly refer to the effects of the Spanish Civil War, but in this work, he refers to a special world of pain and suffering. Picasso's insistence for us to imagine ourselves in the crying and dark eyes of this woman is the reaction he saw in the newspaper after seeing the photos of the bombings of that time during the Spanish Civil War.

The artwork is noted for its bright colors and abstract style, with fragmented features, sharp angles, and overlapping shapes typical of Picasso's Cubist approach.
