It would be cool if Warpcast notifications had unique IDs that could be tracked and then you could update content of a notification instead of sending a new one (e.g. "yo from dwr" → "yo from dwr, v, and 26 others") and remove notifications once they're no longer relevant

Yeah basically this. There's already grouped notifs for follows and likes anyway.
