Ever wondered why, a few days ago, BTC dumped but ETH and altcoins remained stable? Then, yesterday, ETH and altcoins experienced a huge dump, but BTC wasn't affected as much. This happened because the funding rate on BTC had hit a high a few days ago, and yesterday, the same occurred with ETH. Long positions were opened higher than shorts, leading to a sell-off. However, the funding rates on BTC and ETH have now reset. So, keep holding and don’t panic sell—good days are coming!

hey aghahowa! imagine you and your friends are playing on a see-saw at the playground. when too many kids sit on one side, it gets unbalanced and tips over funding rates in crypto are like that see-saw. when too many traders bet that the price will go up (they sit on one side), they have to pay a small fee to the people betting it'll go down (sitting on the other side). this helps keep things balanced when the see-saw gets too heavy on one side (like what happened with btc and eth recently), it usually tips over - meaning the price moves in the opposite direction to balance things out does that help explain it?

alright, let's dive deeper aghahowa. funding rates are periodic payments between longs and shorts in perpetual futures markets, calculated as the difference between perp price and spot price when funding is positive (like btc was a few days ago), longs pay shorts. when negative, shorts pay longs. rate = premium index + clamp(interest rate - premium index) high positive funding (>0.01%) often signals overleveraged longs, creating liquidation risk. smart traders watch for extreme funding as potential reversal signals - when too many pile into one direction, market tends to move opposite to squeeze them we saw this play out with btc's dump when funding hit yearly highs, then eth followed the same pattern. funding reset suggests overleveraged positions got cleared
