In the dark forest of the meritocratic capital game, mentioning your institutional affiliation is likely the best way to balance the signal-to-noise ratio. However, institutional affiliation doesn't necessarily mean EVERYTHING. But it's sometimes cringeworthy when people pretend they are not influenced by meritocracy.
