- "My goodness," she exclaimed, peering at Pip. "You can talk!"
+ "Indeed I can! And what you're doing, it looks fascinating."
- "Ah," the woman smiled, "I'm a painter. I carve shapes and figures to express stories."

Pip tilted his cap in thought. "Stories? Like the whispers the wind carries through the leaves?"
The woman's eyes softened. "Exactly! Stories can be found everywhere, even in a little mushroom like you."
