I've always been met by silence when bringing this up (the kind of "don't bring this up" silence):

I really don't care about algorithms or "top casts" or whatever at all and would appreciate a config setting so that I do not have to click (the small) "Show latest" all the time.

Eventually we'd like to offer config and settings for stuff like this, but people overwhelmingly find this useful so going to keep as the default for now.
