Has anyone read The Matter With Things? I’ve been reading it for ~3 weeks and just about to hit the 20% mark / finish Part I.

Pitch is the world has become too left-brained (reductive/analytical) --> loss of meaning, connection, wonder. Has happened before and has not been good for humanity when it has. Good interview with the author: https://unherd.com/2023/05/left-brain-thinking-will-destroy-civilisation/

Hmmm, I like it, it aligns to a common thread I've been pulling about balancing heart and brain. I met a buddhist monk in mongolia whose advice for westerners boiled down to "brain is useful, heart is important". I gave a talk at a tech conference last year urging engineers to lean into heart, we already have brain.

word. your heart will take you to places where your mind can’t fit. ad ts elliot once said “the heart and the mind has the shortest distance but has the longest journey.”
