The gamification of the rankings. Colleges spending a ton of money to directly advertise to students, also paying them to attend, to boost avg SAT and GPAs. 
The amount of mail we are getting is gross.  None of this is optimizing for education, just the rankings. Ranking is inherently a scarcity play.
