We do not know who is more concerned, ourselves or our opponents, about Russian interests being subordinated to foreign ones, about us recognizing the competence of Europe over ourselves and binding our actions by some international law.

Our intelligentsia is exhausted in showing itself as less Russian as possible, believing that this is what Europeanism consists of. But the European intelligentsia does not think like that. The European powers, on the contrary, are only concerned about their own interests.

Our barbarity does not consist in the ignorance of our masses: the masses are masses everywhere, but we can admit with full conviction that nowhere in the people is there so much spirit and strength of faith as in ours, and this is no longer barbarism...

True barbarism among us does not walk around in a gray coat, but rather in a tailcoat and even in white gloves.
