I wonder if L2s will eventually want to make stablecoins their native token rather than ETH..

I imagine that's what the masses would want to transact with. Plus improves security of that token and removes the need for approvals 🤔

I am sure normies would love that.
Simplifies their problems but will probably increase network fees

Why would it increase fees you think? Just curious :)

Because the L1 fee currency is eth and someone allong the path has to pay those fees
