Heavy Weighs the Heart (2024)

the title of this piece is a play on a practice in ancient egypt where the heart of the deceased would be weighed on a scale against a feather from the goddess of truth & justice.

if the heart was lighter than the feather, then the person was considered “virtuous” & the soul was free to pass to the next life.

if the heart was heavier than the feather, the person was a sinner & their heart was fed to the goddess/demon Ammit (who was part hippo, part lion and part crocodile)
