Is it me or should onchain games not require a wallet to start playing? Add a wallet later to save state, add to the leaderboard, unlock more content, whatever. Looks super cool otherwise!

The problem in this space is knowing when to surface and when to abstract the technology. @thirdweb has a pretty seamless workflow where it creates a wallet in the background and lets you sign up via email. Removing the friction for those who would otherwise lose interest setting things up. This is what’s going to bring more people into this space

It's true, but on the other hand I completely hesitate sending a link to non-crypto folks which require a wallet upfront. I'd have zero hesitation to send it if it was "hey look cute game you can try out, and can make a wallet if you wanna unlock more functionality" Plus more clearly associates with the actual value proposition (what is actually unlocked with a wallet?), rather than just sticking to the old web2.0 patterns we've had all along (collect emails, start drip marketing campaign, hammer until conversions improve).
