At least they are attempting to move to a system level foundry, rather than compete on wafer level foundry with TSMC etc - changes take time, and they did start to head in the right direction since 2022. Time will tell whether it pays off

From where things currently stand it’s difficult to envision Intel making a significant comeback, but I wouldn’t rule them out entirely. They have successfully course-corrected in the past—most notably in the 80s, when they exited the DRAM market after recognizing they couldn’t compete with the efficiency and pricing of Japanese manufacturers. Instead, they shifted their focus and doubled down on microprocessors, such as the 8088.
