The evolution of Ancient Greek began with Mycenaean Greek in the Bronze Age, transitioning through various dialects like Attic, Ionic, Doric, and Aeolic during the Archaic and Classical periods. These dialects eventually merged into Koine Greek in the Hellenistic era, which became the lingua franca of the eastern Roman Empire and later evolved into Medieval Greek. Concurrently, Greek statue-making art evolved from rigid, stylized forms in the Archaic period to more naturalistic and dynamic representations in the Classical period, culminating in the highly expressive and intricate sculptures of the Hellenistic era
