Quick question for the $DEGEN fam — is business class a scam or a legit flex? 🧐 Would you ever drop $5k on an 8-hour roundtrip flight? And how much should someone earn per year to justify that? Give me your very opinionated answer — no fence-sitting, top hat gang. Scenario: 10 hour roundtrip flight. Ticket: $5,000. Perks: Slightly wider chair, champagne at altitude, and the ability to judge people walking past you. Worth it? Or nah?

First time, second time, maybe third time, if you can afford it, absolutely it's so nice, especially for those ~10hr flights For me, I make a goal. For our UK trip last year, I told my wife "if I can make <x> amount in next 30 days, I'll upgrade us". That way we're both pushing for me, and I made it. For the DEGENniversary trip, I told my wife again "tell you what, if I can make <x> in the next 20 days, we'll go to Poland IN STYLE!". We're both pushing and I not only made it, I exceeded the goal. So we had some money left over for another trip later in the year. Other benefits if you can pay for Business Class - The miles you earn get you other trips for free - Using a credit card FOR the airline gets you MORE points - You can take heavier bags, board early, use Lounge, etc I combined it also with a new credit card where you get 200k miles if you spend a certain amount in a certain time, and the one trip qualified, so for that one flight, I got like 4 other flights for free (10 flights if cheap)

What banks around the world would you suggest for picking a credit card from?

That highly depends on your country, target benefits, etc. "the points guy" is a go-to for various timely deals that help focus on specific areas. For me, I wanted to maximize travel benefits. I already had a United Club card and so Amex Platinum was the best deal to pair up with that. Plus, AMEX platinum costs like $800 a year but if you work out most of the benefits, you can get > $2000 out of that first year back, assuming you already use some things. Like even just $200 from Uber ($15/mo). There's like a million little things you can pay for, get discounts on or cash back with AMEX platinum so it was a no-brainer for me, plus the 200k points to start with.
