most impressive thing i’ve learned about as a result of the fires: CL-415 Super Scooper and its pilots.

its ~30m wings are able to scoop 1,400 gallons in 12 seconds and drop it as low as 100ft over fires.

the pilots are highly skilled, having to battle insane terrain, smoke, debris, and the Santa Ana winds.
