In 2016, Ethereum was still young.
Excitement was everywhere.

Then came The DAO — a decentralized VC experiment.
It raised $150M in ETH.

But then…
A hacker attacked.

The debate was intense.
Philosophy clashed with practicality.

@vitalik.eth and the core devs leaned toward saving the ecosystem.

It was about protecting the builders.

In July 2016, a fork happened.

Now there were 2 Ethereums:

ETH: the new chain with restored funds

ETC: the old chain that refused to change


Same roots.
Different values.

ETH kept evolving.
It became the home of DeFi, NFTs, and innovation.

ETC stayed loyal to the original code — but lost momentum.

Both chains exist.
But ETH leads the new internet.

The DAO hack hurt — but it also hardened Ethereum.

It survived its first crisis.
It proved it could make tough decisions.
It chose the builders.
