A little anecdote involving CV Raman, Jawaharlal Nehru and Pancharatnam. One time Nehru was visiting Raman’s institute. Pancharatnam was working in the library. Raman pointed him out to Nehru and said “This is my best student. Who knows, he may even bring a Nobel prize to India one day.” Nehru went up to Pancharatnam, stood quietly for a while and then hugged him. “Keep going, young man,” he told the young scientist. “Stop bothering him,” Raman called out to the prime minister, “Come, I will show you my mineral collection.”
