I’m not sure what Dürer was after. But one can observe from his sketchbook that he was seeking the ideal form for the human figure. Although, his pursuit of excellence in design is admirable, I can’t help but sense that he got too caught up in the numbers. The figures tend to feel over designed and quite mechanical. But having said that, the designs still show a prolific designer in pursuit of the sublime.
