New channel model has me thinking about when conflict happens:

v1 (hide, warn, ban): direct conflict over content, after the fact. "mods are hiding all my posts!"
v2 (curate): indirect conflict, sometimes long after the fact. "mods are shadowbanning me, why isn't my post in main?!"
v3 (membership): direct conflict before and after. "mods won't let me in!" and "mods kicked me!"

v2 was alluring because it seemed to reduce conflict, but I think there is something like a conservation law of moderation here: you can move it around, but it will always happen somewhere.
