IT engineer's request to find $770 million in Bitcoin from landfill is denied by court James Howells, an information technology engineer from Newport, Wales, accidentally lost his hard drive containing Bitcoin in a landfill in 2013. After years of persistent legal fighting, he had to accept failed in court today when unable to access the hard drive burial area to find the precious Bitcoin. The hard drive stored 8,000 Bitcoins mined in 2009, now worth more than $770 million. The judge dismissed the case, citing “no realistic prospect” of success in a full trial.
