At 3am Beijing time on December 19th, the Federal Reserve announced a 25 basis point interest rate cut, lowering the target range for the federal funds rate to between 4.25% and 4.50%. This is the third time the Fed has cut interest rates this year and a consecutive cut since September 2024. The Federal Reserve expects to cut interest rates twice by 25 basis points each in 2025, compared to the expected four cuts in September.
