I don’t think west peeps treats Matcha as “tea” in the context of grabbing a cup of tea, aside from matcha enthusiasts . But it is “tea” but the mindshare is not “tea”.

Nahhhh I don't agree.. because if we are to classify matcha it's still be under the "Tea" family ... We might not actively acknowledge it but the history still doesn't change. Unless we tryna do that now

I see where you’re coming from, but my perspective is on mental positioning. As a comparative point, tomato’s are technically fruits (the history says so) but people identify tomato’s as vegetables based on its affiliation with its culinary serving options. That’s my stance with western Matcha and how it’s served and associated with. If it’s the old school, sit on a tatami and whisked by a medieval temple person, it feels more like Edo tea 🍵😆
