They’re the basis for the Master and Commander movie and they are way better than they have any right to be 

Also Cryptonomicon is like half historical fiction and it’s excellent

I’ve heard good things. 20 books tho! That’s an intense series, will start w the first and see

The first teaches you the language. The second shakes out the unworthy (it’s a Jane Austen style outlier). The third is where you settle into the groove. The tenth is my favorite.
