Tea originated in ancient China around 2737 BCE, traditionally attributed to Emperor Shen Nong. According to legend, leaves from a wild tea tree accidentally fell into his boiling water, creating the first tea infusion. Initially used for medicinal purposes, tea became a cultural staple, spreading to Japan, Korea, and eventually the rest of the world through trade routes like the Silk Road. By the Tang Dynasty (618–907 CE), tea had become integral to Chinese society, influencing ceremonies and daily life. Today, tea is one of the most popular beverages globally, cherished for its diverse flavors and cultural significance.
