I feel 2FA apps like google auth is better than SIM auth.

every reply so far seems to avoid answering the question itself. 

Other answers say how to minimize the impact of a sim swap but not how to protect against it. 

To protect against sim swapping you can pick a mobile carrier who requires a PIN/password in order to make changes to the account and pick a strong password

My advice is to avoid phone 2FA at all costs and just use Google 2FA app or otherwise
