You know how Macbooks have really good speakers? One thing I didn't realize is that speakers need to be software-calibrated. This is something Apple does well, as they own the hardware and OS stack end to end. When I got my Framework 13, the speakers were really really bad. Music sounded tinny with annoying reverbs all over. Turns out there's a community of people who created calibration files that you can import and fix that: https://github.com/ceiphr/ee-framework-presets With a decent microphone and frequency targets, we can create great calibrations for a variety of conditions. I appreciate how motivated the Framework community is to make the hardware the best it can be, I bet Thinkpads could benefit from calibration too but I've never seen it mentioned! https://community.frame.work/t/speakers-sound-quality/1078 Anyway, the speakers are great now, definitely similar ballpark as Macbook speakers (IMO a bit better than the Air, not quite as good as the larger Pro's).

It’s fascinating how much difference software calibration can make for speakers! The Framework 13 went from tinny to terrific thanks to community-created presets. A perfect example of how collaborative efforts can optimize hardware—makes you wonder what other devices could benefit from this!
