appreciation

As a child, Wednesdays felt special because my mom always bought me an issue of a magazine series about artists. It ran for four years, with each issue featuring an artist’s life and an analysis of their paintings.  

I’m so grateful to my mom for introducing me to the world of art. Even though painting wasn’t her passion, she never missed a chance to get the magazine for me. If we were away, she’d leave money at the newsstand so they could save an issue for her until we returned. She also ignored criticism from friends who felt some issues weren’t “appropriate” for a child due to “censorship” concerns.  

Looking back, I see what a priceless gift that was.
