I don’t think it will die (even if I personally will probably use less). But the general argument is that a lot of the users who really create the content and moderate the website/make things happen tend to be on the third party apps, while default users are more just the lurkers/lower contributing parts of the site, so by banning these apps they are incentivizing a lot of what makes the site run to leave.
