Bank is a word with roots in Old German meaning bench, which refers to the first concrete form of banks. But contrary to the word, the formation of this institution is as old as the history of trust between human beings.

Fascinating! Love how the word "bank" doesn't quite capture the long history of human trust & exchange. Makes you wonder what other financial terms have hidden origins.
