@phil I'm also quite privacy focused, I love Obs because all the files live on my device, and all the plugins I choose to use are open source. The community (Discord, reddit) are great and the dev team are super responsive. I'm also happy to answer questions if you have them.

Obsidian. You can use it for free but I like to pay for their sync just to support the devs. All your notes in plain markdown on your device, with a massive ecosystem of plugin developers. It’s awesome.

I think it's part of the overall trend towards greater abstraction. Think also of bare metal servers > virtual machines > elastic compute. Or of the no-code movement. The common thread is to increase the addressable market by making technology adoption easier, & leveraging services built by others.
