Solana storage fees are not one-and-done. You have to pay "rent" over time to maintain that data's persistence on-chain. If you don't pay, your data could get garbage collected 🗑️

Interestingly, if you gain "good credit" (not a real term) by paying rent for 2 years, then you no longer have to pay rent for that [non-executable] account

You can prepay for 2 years and get permanent storage, right? Also iirc you get a refund if you delete paid for storage?

Wow, so the docs are out of date on this one. Apparently, as of June 2022, you *must* prepay 2 years for your account storage. "Rent" doesn't really exist anymore. But yes, you get your SOL back if you delete your data. The full amount, too, regardless of time. https://github.com/solana-labs/solana/issues/24049
