- ppl smoking cigarettes everywhere
- men shaving every day (??) before work

people shaved everyday and the signifier that someone was on a bender or depressed or was to give them a little stubble. stubble wasn’t a thing for the entire 20th century, even when mustaches or beards were popular you shaved in between or something was up
