Wham!’s “Last Christmas” is weirdly flat when you play along… apparently they tracked it too fast so it is in the key of D -50 cent flat because they slowed it down by physically slowing down the analog tape on playback

Also, When I’m 64 and Springsteen’s Hungry Heart are shifted up a half step or so. used to be sorta common!

Yeah being able to be perfect with recording has been detrimental. 
I listen to isolated stems of iconic songs and am surprised how off/bad they sound. Something about going for a pleasant end result seems obvious yet easy to overcomplicate
