Modern Western nomadism has a shelf life. There are only so many Authentic Experiences you can have, funky bars you can visit, Before Sunrise liaisons. Ultimately it’s extractive. Pick a place, maybe two, dive deep. Build.

Interesting take. I guess it’s human nature to want to settle down and make your mark somewhere. The nomad life seems to last longer for some than others. Personally, never liked the idea of moving so frequently.

Never thought of it that way. It’s completely understandable to be weary of the travellers. It’s definitely a very indulgent way to live. I’m holding hope that there are a good amount that give back to the communities they visit.

Remote tech work really put this in stark relief. Costal US salaries vs. local economies. Bozeman, Marfa, etc. Obviously tourism dollars are good, if fraught. Used to be just middle class families for the weekend. Now? Maybe I’ll buy this house as an AirBnb on a 2 month costal salary, spend 3 months here kinda thing.

Yeah, so crazy how much has changed. It’s a beautiful thought to live in paradise.
