Mbah Surojo started by working on Javanese masks in 1972, located in Wirobrajan, Yogyakarta City. It was Mbah Surojo who had the idea to make a new "breakthrough" namely making wooden mask crafts among the majority of wayang craftspeople in his area at that time.
