The Azadi Tower, or "Borj-e Azadi" in Persian, is one of Tehran, Iran's most iconic landmarks. Originally named the Shahyad Tower, it was built in 1971 to commemorate the 2,500th anniversary of the Persian Empire. The tower is located in Azadi Square, one of the largest public spaces in Tehran, and it has become a symbol of the city and a representation of modern Iran.
