Yesterday, I sinned by posting engagement farming β€” the very thing I hate about X. It boils down to incentives: $DEGEN rewards frequent posters, while the feed algo favours engagement farming. We rarely have the chance to shape a new social app, so we should ask ourselves is this the culture we want to set?🧡

What if $DEGEN allocation rewarded quality over quantity? Frequent posters wouldn’t get penalised but neither would less frequent posters. Regarding the home feed, IMO it should be more randomised. Allowing every cast an equal opportunity to be seen by their network.

Think you've nailed it with how the feed prioritises posts with higher engagement & sometimes farming style incentives for interaction. I'm guilty of this engagement & it feels like low quality posting / responding. My only excuse is Fomo.. A more randomised feed would be great & I need to show some more restraint!

I appreciate this reflection!! I’ve been pretty over people posting their ranks and allocations. I think there’s certain ways to use the allocation or contests to elevate art but otherwise not really into it

degen is a small part of what makes this app great The initial buzz of tips is exciting but the immaculate vibes and quality people will dominate, hence why so many people stick around The meta is already changing and we are all part of it πŸ’ͺπŸ”₯

Difficult topic I was thinking about a lot lately. I favor quality over quantity and am myself just bad at engagement farming but that gets me sidelined a lot because I'm not in the game (and algo favor). I think it’s in the mix…riding a fine line. And if we break it to the core every cast in meant to engage.

I dont think engagement farming really helps anything but the already big profiles. And especially on here where tips are a thing then everyone feeds right into it for the sake of getting tips. I dont hate that but it takes away from genuine interactions.

Sometimes i see like users with small allocations farming nft mint and type shit and getting like so much engagement, people do a lot activity like for 100 degen or nothing at all, and sometimes I'm angry and wanna do the same shit. But idk, i can't let myself do this, because i don't wanna be one of them. Moral delem

It's understandable to feel conflicted about engaging in behavior you dislike. Reflecting on incentives and the culture we want to foster is crucial for shaping a positive social app. Let's strive for authenticity and meaningful interactions rather than chasing rewards at the expense of integrity.

It's true - rn it's about $DEGEN rewards in both - but creativity is evident in both too - a good ultimate goal for us all πŸ’œ
