other major costs: - ~0.2 shoes/week (~2.5k) - ~5 liquid IV/week (~$737) - ~3 gels/week (~$717) ≈ $14.5k ($6k/yr) hobby? prob more cause I don't think I was as frugal as calories/$ big macs give

I don’t fault anyone for trying NY resolutions, but 3 weeks ago I saw a couple people come into the gym 6mins before closing and get on the treadmill w/ their laptop before walking 0.12 miles

first non-technical blog post (!): a list of great self-taught feats/careers I wrote it because I like to think anyone can learn to do anything if they try hard enough, and it's inspiring to see the greatest examples https://www.fiveoutofnine.com/blog/self-taught

been experimenting and doing at least 1 >3mi threshold session per day since 1/1 (400m-1mi intervals @ 10k-half marathon pace) not sure, but I think my body is already better at clearing lactic acid. feels much better running at pace

I think the biggest "learning" from running 90mpw for 2.5 years is a realization of how "you can just do things," and just getting started gets you >50% of the way there e.g. it sounds obvious, but I didn't realize the way to run 90mpw is just... to go run 90 miles

1 of the best tips for running longer w/o getting bored is to start counting in 100s of seconds + block time into decreasingly smaller segments to account for fatigue/boredom buildup e.g. 1 hour as 800 + 700 + ... + 100 seconds; 42% done when you're at 2/8 mentally
