good q & a between @jxom and @accountless.eth re trusting wallets https://x.com/_jxom/status/1879454626086609032 my mental model for 3p trust: 1) trust the party isn't intentionally evil 2) trust the party isn't unintentionally evil (e.g. misaligned values or incentives) 1 is basically unavoidable. there's an entire stack starting with hardware going up through your operating system to an application that has to be trusted to not be blatantly ripping you off. 2 should be minimized. for example if two parties offer private messaging and one is e2ee that e2ee is preferred. but you're still making trust assumptions in both categories (in 1 that they aren't lying to you and actually forwarding your data in plaintext and 2 that their client and encryption are secure) jxom point is convincing that throwing away a private key is trivial so the category 2 trust assumption is minimal and you're already having to trust in category 1 for many other things that are harder to get right

people overindex on macro trends and delude themselves into thinking they have less agency than they do yes society has made a rut for you to follow and yes most people are falling into it but others don’t and history is filled abandoned ruts because a few chose to try something else and sure enough once a new groove formed the masses soon followed make a choice and remember not choosing is a choice as well just a lazy one

smart wallet question I assume there will be a handful of popular implementations with a long tail of more experimental stuff. how much of a challenge will it be for a wallet client to support getting a signer to any one of the implementations and interacting with it? how would the wallet discover the implementation? inspecting onchain state or asking the user? what sorts of differences are there between contracts in terms of doing basic interactions?

7702 - EOA key still needs to be stored - passkey signing is blind and confusing since the system UIs can’t be changed and refer to signing in - passkey sync has holes (x platform) - session keys UX unclear: how are keys requested? what’s the trade off between exposing complexity to users around restrictions vs making it magic but users don’t know what they’re approving?
