Packing for a beach vacation means 4 outfits per day - Beach outfit, Bathing suit and coverup - Workout outfit - A post beach casual outfit like shorts and t shirt - A cute dinner outfit And 9 days out of 10 I stay in the same clothes all day. But I like having options… @linda I’m thinking about you living out of a backpack for 2 years when I look at the pile of clothes I’m about to pack for 4 days. Halp me, 😂

Appreciation cast for @octant 🥰 Octant is building novel and sustainable ways to fund Ethereum projects. And they stepped up to financially support @gmfarcaster these past few months as one of our premier sponsors. We got to learn more about their vision, values and current and future projects. (I’ll link to an episode for you to learn more in next cast) If you like what we’re building with @gmfarcaster , please consider following @octant and /octant because they’ve got some cool updates coming later this year

On vacation this week… so no @gmfarcaster shows. Should I go dark and take a social media detox or cast personal updates from vacation? Not finding the current meta particularly interesting or novel, and since I don’t have to cover it as news, I have a little choice about how to show up this week on the purple app.

GM and warm welcome to @dayneedssleep She's a 4th year studying cyber security and criminal justice. A gamer. Coder. Values privacy because she's into cyber but I convinced her to join to meet other college students and tech founders.

Autonomy vs. Agency, from a workplace perspective: - Autonomy is having freedom to decide how work gets done. It is something that is given to you, usually by a supervisor. Example: flexible hours, remote work, choice of tools, etc. - Agency is more internal and self-directed, it's whether you take action on your own behalf. Example: set your own goals, propose new initiatives, etc.

Besides tiktok being the notable exception, which of these are text, image, or video platforms: Instagram Twitter LinkedIn Threads Substack Even tiktok has videos which are just text pasted on an image and set to music, so maybe there’s an argument to be made that TikTok supports text too Point being: all social platforms support all kinds of media. Would be stupid if Farcaster didn’t lean into them all.

Pickle content is back! Sautéed half a cabbage this morning for breakfast and quick pickled the other half to use as a topping for grain bowls, tacos or snack out of the jar 🤤

Best thing I ever did was learn to become coachable. I was a high achieving academic kid. School was easy for me - I didn’t have to work too hard. I thought intelligence was something you were either born with or not. I couldn’t have been more wrong. At some point in my 30s I completely changed my mindset and it was maybe the single best thing that’s happened to me. Some things that contributed to this change: - worked for a company that made Learning Management Software and “learning” was central to our culture, we celebrated learning and personal growth - read Mindset by Carol Dweck (a must read!), and was introduced to Habits of Mind thru my kids elementary school (also made me a better parent) - discovered Twitter and felt inspired by such wide access to experts from so many different fields - when i was first promoted to director, i was offered leadership training and of all the things I learned the most important was that leadership is a skill that can be developed (you aren’t born a leader) - when I was promoted to VP, as part of my comp negotiation, I asked for an executive coach. Working with a coach was awesome - he helped me see things I couldn’t see myself because I was too close, and he helped make the path I needed to take crystal clear. I’ve had a few chats with coach coale and every time I walk away feeling energized, and with a different perspective.

People liked the sunset photo I shared last night. Heres some more context. I was in a car, sitting in a parking lot and stuck my hand out the window to take a really quick shot. The photo I shared last night is a cropped version. Here’s the unedited original photo next to the cropped one. Interesting what a little cropping can do to your perspective. Made it seem like the entire world was eneveloped orange, when in reality it was just a portion.

Fixed the caching issue today. Miniapp embed preview should now always show the thumbnail of whatever video is being featured in our app - either our latest recording, or a current live stream. Solution was to pass videoID as a query string parameter, so every episode gets its own image URL. And that dynamic URL is what gets injected into the metadata tag. Thx @deodad Won't really know if its actually fixed until the video changes...which wont be until after our vacation week :) but I think it should be good I love the tiny stanley cup and want all our thumbnails to have it @nounishprof miniapp.gmfarcaster.com

I think the biggest vibe shift people are picking up on is that merkle focusing on video is a rare* shift away from making farcaster better for the people who are already here vs. trying to attract new people who are not. They aren’t focusing on video because we asked them to, it’s because our so called friends who we wont invite here are watching video on other platforms. It’s like if your boyfriend asks what your hottest friends favorite food is , and then starts making it is every night with the hope she’ll stop by. The text lovers who have been here daily for years may be feeling a sense of loss, or small lack of appreciation But its good to remember that unless farcaster scales multiple orders of magnitude , it will someday shut down and we’ll call it a good science experiment , fun while it lasted Dan and V are talented founders, and they have tons of good traits, maybe best of all is a relentless determination to keep trying new things, day after day, and literally year after year. They’ve earned enough of my trust by showing up, being transparent, and keeping their word, that I will never not let them cook or run new experiments If farcaster as a protocol is successful, we can always go build a text based app that has all the vibes of the old days. But you know what? We’ll have grown as people and we’ll be different by then, and we wont want to go back. Change is the only constant. Choo choo lets fuck around and find out. * the infamous “not enough interesting content” was the earlier comment that people hated bc we took it personally lol

One of my kids is on a 2 week program in Barcelona. - 30 teens - 4 groups broken into areas of study- business and entrepreneurship, art and architecture, Spanish language and culture, photography. - morning study and afternoon excursions - live in dorms They arent speed running tourist spots or doing the instagram check the box style of travel. They get to experience living in a new place, and learn something new and meaningful. Why arent there adult trips like this? My husband and I see empty nest in our future (4 years away, but as anyone with older kids know, time starts to fly 💨) and we talk about wanting experiences like this. @balajis.eth maybe empty nesters will be a new growth vector for network school in the future- successful semi retired adults with time on their hand but still have the burning need to go deep learning new skills, see the world, and build
