airdrops are gamed and fairly criticized. but nothing new. in 1711 king george I of England was effectively "airdropped" south sea company stock during the south sea bubble. established with the intent of managing and consolidating the national debt of britain by offering stock in exchange for government debt. part of the scheme to promote the company's success and attract investment, directors granted significant amounts of stock to influential figures, including the king and other members of the royal family. the stock was granted to him without any requirement to pay for it, which resembles a modern "airdrop" in the sense that it was a free allocation intended to influence or reward him.

looking over a long-term horizon of approximately ~ 100 years, some of these NFTs have the potential to become priceless relics, sought after by unique collectors and billionaires. this value increase will be further amplified by the inevitable loss of wallets and private keys due to failed generational inheritance and sudden deaths. *assuming ethereum will continue to chug along for centuries.
